Minutes of Unit 145 Board Meeting

August 19, 2009

 

Present:     Judy Biegner, Lois DeBlois, Bob Erwin, Sue Erwin, Brenda Iemma, Chris DelSesto, Danuta Lamparski, Joe Brouillard, Nancy Rosenbaum, Dave Prentiss, Nancy O’Donnell

Excused:    Bill Lang, Lou DiOrio, Bill Shockley

 

President Joe Brouillard called the meeting to order at 5:55 PM

 

 

Secretary’s Report

 

Sue Erwin’s report of the May board meeting was reviewed and accepted by the BOD.

 

 

Treasurer’s Report 

 

Brenda Iemma presented the treasurer’s report, and the report was accepted.

 

 

Tournament Manager’s Report

 

June 2009 Sectional

 

Joe Brouillard announced that the unit made a profit on the June Sectional.  He also mentioned that it is easier to manage the sectional if not playing.

 

Nashua Scheduling Meeting

 

There is a scheduling meeting planned for the Nashua Regional to be held over Labor Day weekend.  Dates for the 2011 and 2012 sectionals will be assigned at that time.

 

The following dates have been suggested for RIBA sectionals:

Jan 29 – 30, 2011        Wonderful Winter

Mar 26 – 27, 2011       Spring Spectacular

Jun 18 – 19, 2011        Summer Splash

Sep 25 – 26, 2011       Fantastic Fall

New Business

Joe Brouillard thanked the BOD for the condolences and contribution to Odyssey Home Health Care in his father’s memory.

 

Sue Erwin thanked the BOD for the flowers she received after her surgery.

 

 

Reports

 

The RI Annual Report and the IRS Annual Report have been filed.

 

 

Bridge Club Visits

 

The visit to the new Ocean State Bridge Club in Tiverton was held on July 27th.  The next visit will be to Bridge Works in Cranston.

 

 

September Sectional

 

Bill Lang has notified the BOD that there will be caddies for the sectional.

Joe will check on the availability of the exercise room in the Johnston Senior Center

Joe will check on the options available for getting the floors cleaned after the sectional on Sunday evening.  There may be a company who will come in and clean the floors after 5 PM

 

 

Constitution Change

 

Changes need to be made to the by-laws.  The wording suggested was the following:

 

Section 4.  Unit officers, Board of Directors members and Unit Committee members shall be compensated in accordance with the Unit 145 Compensation Policy.  The Compensation Policy shall be established by the Unit Compensation Committee.

The BOD unanimously agreed to the change. 

 

 

Annual Meeting – October 24th

 

There will be a flyer in the Bridge Bits mailing with a sign-up form.  The mailing deadline will be September 13th.  Sue Erwin has agreed to have the sign-up forms sent to her and will keep a tally of those who accept.

The favor this year will be a small bottle of hand sanitizer.

Joe requested that we rent a van this year for moving tables and supplies.  A motion was made, seconded, and unanimously accepted.

 

 

Nominating Committee

 

Judy Biegner announced the slate of officers for the 2010 year:

        President:  Bill Shockley and Sue Erwin

        Vice President:  Lois DeBlois

        Treasurer:  Brenda Iemma

        Secretary:  Kathy Thornton

There will be an election at the Annual Meeting.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 6:40PM
