Rhode Island Bridge Association, Inc

Minutes of Unit 145 Board Meeting

November 16, 2006

The meeting was called to order at approximately 5:55 p.m. by Bob Erwin, President.

Present:  Bob Erwin, Judy Biegner, Joe Brouillard, Sue Erwin, Loretta Krebel, and Dave Prentiss.

Minutes of the August 16th meeting and the Annual Gala (Unit meeting) were accepted without change.

The Treasurer’s Report was presented by Joe Brouillard and accepted.  All accounts are up to date.  Receipts were up from the September/October sectional due to having only one director.  Expenses for the gala were less than expected due to having the meal early enough to be considered a lunch rate rather than a dinner rate.

Tournament Manaager’s report was given by Bob Erwin.  There was good attendance at the September/October sectional.  The next sectional will be held the weekend of January 13-14, 2007, at the Buttonwoods Community Center, Warwick.

Old Business:

Gala:  Appreciation was given to Maureen Johnson for the excellent work coordinating this year’s Gala.  There was very good feedback on the event – and it was a great way to spend a very rainy day.

Mentoring Program:  There will be a mentored game coordinated by Bill Niemi and held at the Neighborhood Guild in Peacedale on Thursday, November 17th, 2006.

Obtaining members email addresses:  Joe B. said that we have 20 – 25% of the email addresses for the unit from the ACBL.  It would save money for the unit to email notices rather than use postage.  Further discussion about obtaining email addresses to follow.  Sue Erwin has Sue Miguel’s list of email addresses which would expand our list.

Membership Directory:  It is currently online.  This information will be forwarded to Bob Erwin who will get a directory printed for the January sectional.  They will be handed out then by someone sitting at the sandwich order table who will keep track of who has received one.  Others can then be mailed.

New Business:

Unit charity:  Judy Biegner discussed charities.  Joe Brouillard estimated that we would have over $300 in our unit charity fund for 2006.  A motion was made and seconded to match the money in our charity fund from the unit treasury for 2006.  It passed unanimously.  It was agreed that our donation would be equally divided between the NICU at the Hasbro Children’s Hospital and the East Bay Head Start, both of which would use donations effectively).

Status of Buttonwoods Community Center:  Bob Erwin has met with the director(s) of Buttonwoods Community Center.  Negotiations are currently going on regarding the use of the site.  We have a commitment for use of the center for the January sectional and may store our tables, etc., until that time.  We may have to find another site for future sectionals and a storage location, depending on the outcome of negotiations.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
